What Kind of Parent Are You?
Text: Colossians 3:18-21






Thesis: To show parents the importance of following God.

Introduction:

1. Parenting is a difficult job.
2. There is no instruction or trouble-shooting manual.

Discussion:

Is your parenting style…

I. Ego-centric (“self-centered”)
Achan – Josh. 7:1, 24-25

II. Pedia-centric (“child-centered”)
Isaac & Rebekah – Gen. 27:5-10
Eli – 1 Sam. 3:13-18; cf. 2:14, 17, 22, 24
Samuel – 1 Sam. 8:1-5

III. Theo-centric (“God-centered”)
Joshua – Josh. 24:15

Characteristics found in a theo-centric home are peace, security, balance, structure, order, love, discipline, etc.

“Hat Rack” Apps

1. Have daily devotions.
2. Pray before your children; listen to them pray.
3. Send them to Bible class. Ask about their lessons.

Conclusion:

1. Parents are leaders in the home, under God’s authority.
2. We have a godly duty to show God’s love to our children.
