Hebrews 13:1-2

Thesis: To show what it means to practice brotherly affection.

1. Philadelphia is the city of "brotherly love." (philos means "love" and adelphos mean
"brother")
2. Is it possible to practice godliness? Can it be done?

Let us consider…

I. Brothers who didn't act like brothers.
A. Cain & Abel (Gen. 4:2-8; 1 Jn. 3:11-12)
B. Jacob & Esau (Gen. 25:28-33)
C. The Patriarchs against Joseph (Acts 7:9; Gen. 37:3-4, 10-11, 18ff)

II. Brothers who loved each other.
A. John & James (Mt. 4:21-22)
B. Peter & Andrew (Jn. 1:40-42)

III. Men who loved each other like brothers.
Jonathan & David (1 Sam. 18:1-3)

"What Do We Learn?"
A. Be objective (Rom. 12:10).
B. Learn from others (1 Thess. 4:9).
C. Let brotherly love continue (Heb. 13:1).

Conclusion:

1. Brotherly affection is a godly trait.
2. It shows our understanding of God.
