The Fleecing of America: The Story of Gideon
2 Kings 6:15-17

Thesis: To show that Christ’s church is the greatest organization in the world.

Introduction:
1. When the people repent, God delivers this rising hero.
2. He displays doubt and fear but immeasurable strength.

Discussion:
Let us consider...

I. Gideon fleeced himself.
A. It’s business as usual, and I have work to do (v. 11).
John 4:34
Will we pass a stranger on the road and not bat an eye, utter a prayer or call help?
B. My fore-fathers did well, and I have been blessed (v. 13).
C. I am one person (v. 15).
D. I am not a hero (v. 15).
E. I need a sign (v. 17).
Matthew 12:39 – “An adulterous and evil adulterous generation seek signs.”

II. Society fleeced its people.
A. After God proves himself and tests Gideon, Gideon requests another sign (vv. 19
40).
1. God proves himself (v. 21).
2. God tests Gideon (vv. 25-32).
3. Nations gather (vv. 33-35).
4. Gideon asks another sign (vv. 36-40).
a. Ground dry; fleece wet.
b. Ground wet; fleece dry.
B. Our society fleeces us when we believe the lies being told.
We’ve been told that…
1. This is a secular nation.
2. Our founders were secularists that had illegitimate children.
3. A wall exists preventing religion from permeating our government.
4. It’s wrong to pray in school.
5. We are animals that evolved over millions and millions of years.
6. We shouldn’t judge the lives of other, no matter how sinful.

Conclusion:
1. Trust God and live right; don’t barter (i.e. live longer, more money, better health).
2. Obey God.
3. God delivers.
4. Your will be blessed.
