Resemblances Between God & Santa Claus
Text: Jude 1:24-25

Thesis: To show some likenesses of God and Santa Claus.

Introduction:

1. Christmas is a busy time of year, but it’s filled with joy.
2. Santa Claus themes are found in God year round.

Discussion:

Resemblances in his…

I. CHARACTER.
A. He is omniscient (“all-knowing”)
1. He knows everything. (“He sees you when you’re sleeping; He knows when
you’re awake; He knows if you’ve been bad or good”)
a. Joshua 22:22 “The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, He knows,
and let Israel itself know-if it is in rebellion, or if in treachery against the
LORD, do not save us this day.”
b. Job 34:21 “For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps.”
c. Psalms 139:4 “For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD,
You know it altogether.”
d. Amos 4:13 “For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind,
Who declares to man what his thought is, And makes the morning
darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth-The LORD God of
hosts is His name.”
e. Hebrews 4:13 “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things
are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
2. He knows me personally. (“He’s making a list, and checking it twice”)
a. Galatians 4:8-9 “But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served
those which by nature are not gods. But now after you have known God,
or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and
beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?”
b. Matthew 6:32 “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your
heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
c. Luke 12:7 “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear
therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
B. He is Omni benevolent (“He’s got a bag that is filled with toys; For the boys and
girls again”)
1. Matthew 7:8-11 “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and
to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if
his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he
give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to
your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good
things to those who ask Him!”
2. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes
down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of
turning.”

II. Expectation of us.
A. We must be good. (“So be good for goodness sake”)
1. Titus 2:12-13 “Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the
blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus
Christ.”
2. Galatians 5:14-15 “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: ‘You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you bite and devour one another,
beware lest you be consumed by one another!”
3. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is
no law.”
B. Preparation & prayer preludes his coming. (“Hang your stockings and say your
prayers”)
1. Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed
is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
2. 2 Thessalonians 1:9-10 “These shall be punished with everlasting destruction
from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He
comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all
those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.”
3. Hebrews 10:23-25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without
wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in
order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and
so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
4. 2 Peter 3:11-12 “Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner
of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and
hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be
dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”
5. Jude 1:20-21 “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

1. Learn about God; but know him personally.
2. Appreciate God’s blessings in your life.
3. Arrange godly things first in your life (Mt. 6:33).
4. Anticipate your heavenly reward.

Conclusion:

1. We like Santa Claus; but we should love Jesus more.
2. Our love & respect for God should be evident in our lives.
