Are Your Courageous In Your Old Age?
Joshua 14:6-12

Thesis: To encourage our seniors to be a blessing for others.

Introduction:
1. Joshua led Israel in obedience to conquer the Promised Land.
2. God gave them rest, and it was time to divide up the land.
3. However, more was to be done.

Discussion:
We reflect that...

I. God keeps us alive (Josh. 14:10).
Luke 20:38; John 11:25; Acts 17:28

II. God kept us from danger (Josh. 14:7).
A. Everyone ventures through a wilderness – full of sin.
B. Dangers surround us on all sides.
C. But God preserves.

III. God desires obedience (Josh. 14:8).
1 Samuel 15:22-23; Mark 5:24

IV. God wants the old to encourage the young (Josh. 14:12).
Titus 2:1-10 – Instructions for old men and old women.

What Do We Learn?
1. Trust in God, and learn his ways.
“Trust in Jehovah with all thy heart…” (Prov. 3:5).
2. OLDER: Help others in their walk.
“…You who are spiritual, restore such a one… …” (Gal. 5:1).
3. YOUNGER: Listen to your elders.
“Exhort [an elder] as a father…the elder women as mothers…” (1 Tim. 5:1-2).
4. Persistently follow God (1 Tim. 6:11-14).
5. Don’t give up; don’t give in (Heb. 12:1-2).

Conclusion:
1. Tendencies to rest always exist, but retirement is not until Heaven.
2. Knowledge, experience and wisdom need to be passed on.
3. The aged need to make the time and take the opportunity; the young need to seek the
opportunity and make themselves available.
